Big Cat

I saw this cat at the pool recently. Its as big as a medium size dog (50+ lbs), but doesn't look like a wild cat. I live in Northern California. Any thoughts?Pics on this post here

Well, to me the cat is very simmilar to lynx. Maybe he's something between (or even a mongler??) lynx and some cat? o_O

It looks like just a large house cat to me. I would like to say that it could be a Maine Coon. Maine Coon's are huge. But I'm not sure.

I thought it looked like a big house cat too, but it was too big -- even for a maine coon. It probably was about 3-4 ft tall and at least that as long.

Hmm. That's strange. I have no idea. I mean, size-wise, it's sounds like it's bobcat sized, but I know bobcat's don't look like orange tabbies.

 

All I can say is... I want one! It's adorable.

I thought the same thing, except it was obviously sizing us up. "Are you worth the climb up the hill to eat?" Well, in any case, no one seems to know! I know that we're in prime cougar country, but that doesn't look like any cougar I've ever seen.

My parents' house is in a canyon with bobcats and mountain lions/cougars, and it looks nothing like either. I'm having a hard time imagining a 3-4ft tall orange tabby.

I know! I wouldn't have believed it either if I hadn't seen it myself. To me it almost looks like a giant tabby and a young male lion since it kinda looks like a mane and it has a puff at the end of his tail.

My personal opinion is that it's either a lynx of some sort or a similar species. I know there's these cats that are like lynxes, but bigger, but I don't know they're name.

All I can say is... I want one! It's adorable.

 

It does look cool, but you don't know weither or not it's friendly.

 

I will say that it's some sort of Lynx, or at least somewhere along the lines of a Lynx.

a hybrid of tabby and something wild, like a "mutt" in the feline world?

My guess is maine coon...just an abnormally big one, I guess! I think if he had any wild cat lineage (lynx or bobcat, etc) you'd be able to see it more in his features or coloring. But hey, I'm just guessing. He's a cutie!

lol, that's not a wild cat. If I had to guess I would say a Norwegian Forest Cat or a Turkish Angora.

And it's not a Maine Coon either. They have large heads, fatter tails, and their faces aren't as thin. But they can get pretty big, mine is a giant, he's got huge dog paws.

Perhaps Maine Coon or Ragdoll. Both those are large aren't they?

My friend lives in Washington state at the bottom of the mountains and there's a huge cat that wanders around his house sometimes. He says it's a feral cat that's a mix between a wildcat and a house cat. So maybe it's just a mutt? Like the Balto of the cat world?

No idea why it's that big, but its cute in an "I'ma bite your hand off if you try to pet me" way. :P
