Hey everyone, and welcome to today's Altador Cup match news!

Getting straight to the point: some hearty congratulations are in order for Team Haunted Woods and its supporters, who glided to a smooth draw against the tier one ranked Darigan Citadel. It wasn't a clear cut match by any means, and there were plenty of heart-stopping, gasp-inducing moments all the way through, as well as a number of brilliant goals from both Layton Vickles and Zo Junior. When the dust settled, Yooyuball and Make Some Noise were flush-even, and each of the teams took one of the remaining side games, leaving the overall match too close to call.

"It'sss disssappointing for ssssure," Vickles remarked after the match, "but when you've been playing for thisss many yearsss, you learn that you're never at your bessst all the way through."

The loss wasn't too problematic for the Citadel, who still sit firmly in group one. The Haunted Woods Zombies, meanwhile, are right on the verge of climbing into group two, and need just a few more points to grab a spot in the running for fifth place.

In another spectacular (but not entirely unprecedented) upset of a top tier contender, the Kreludor Moons were double-trounced by Team Virtupets in Yooyuball and Slushie Slinger, knocking them back down to second place. The Moons managed to take the remaining side games, including (surprisingly) Shootout Showdown, Virtupets' old speciality. However, considering the fact that they're still in danger of dropping down to group three, perhaps it would have been quite reasonable to expect the Robots to go gunning for the more valuable sports rather than stick to old habits. As for the Moons, well, teams going up against them would do well to remember what Kreludor can do to overconfident opponents.

The Maraquan Mermaids were also outshone yesterday when the Mystery Island Natives pulled together a fantastic Yooyuball game, sideswiping even Maraqua's rock-solid wall of defenders. The Natives weren't able to do much against the Mermaids' dominance in the side games, but it was a morale-boosting win for them all the same, and a blow to Maraqua's efforts to battle their way into group one.

Team Roo Island, Maraqua's main competitor for top four status, had a much better day against Team Brightvale. The Wizards were unable to repeat their excellent side game performance from their last match against the Roos, and fell to a clean sweep. Roo Island will have to hope the fourth-placed Team Meridell they're chasing slows down at least a little in the near future however - the Knights stayed ahead with a parallel sweep over Team Altador, leaving the Roos just as far from tier one as they were the day before.

And while Roo Island edged ahead of Maraqua towards the top of the leaderboard, Krawk Island closed in on the Mermaids from behind, taking down Team Terror Mountain in Yooyuball, Slushie Slinger, and Make Some Noise to claim a solid victory, and a decent hoard of match points. The Terror Mountain Chillers, as usual, were untouchable in Shootout Showdown, maintaining their streak at a majestic 22-0-0.

The Tyrannian Fossils, Terror Mountain's undying rivals in the side gaming field, slipped a little yesterday against Team Shenkuu, losing Shootout Showdown to the Ninjas. Mirsha Grelinek and her squad kept up some impressive Yooyuball play, staying ahead of the Tyrannians from the kick-off to the final whistle, but the Fossils' supporters took Slushie Slinger and Make Some Noise by storm.

"We played well, but we must improve ceaselessly. We cannot let the championship slip from our grasp." Mirsha replied when asked for her opinion on the results.

Kiko Lake hasn't been at its best in recent days, but they buckled up and showed their stuff when it came to yesterday's match against the Lost Desert. They couldn't stop the Desert Marauders from taking the win, but their efforts in Slushie Slinger denied the Lost Desert a clean sweep. However, it seems that they've lost enough match points to slip down to sixteenth place, behind Team Faerieland.

And that brings us to one of the day's most exciting matches: Faerieland versus Moltara! The Faeries ended the day with a decisive victory which nudged them from second last into fifteenth place, adding some more of those rare wins to their Yooyuball and Shootout Showdown counts. Nevertheless, the Moltaran Magmas improved on their results from the last time they crossed guards with the Faeries, winning Make Some Noise and garnering a Slushie Slinger draw. Unfortunately for them, they're still definitively in last place, and analysts aren't too optimistic about a recovery. Still, as Aldric Beign of Team Moltara said, "We'll see."

Championship contenders Darigan and the Lost Desert have their next clash scheduled today, and it seems the stadium is already fully booked for that match. Also crossing paths are the underdogs from Kiko Lake and Faerieland, battling to establish themselves in group four. Team Shenkuu faces some very tough opposition from Meridell's Knights, but the Ninjas need to start getting some serious wins if they want to escape the middle of the leaderboard, and today is as good a chance as any they're going to get. We'll also be keeping an eye on the match between old rivals Krawk Island and Maraqua. It's interesting to note that these two teams are currently the most closely matched of any in the tournament, with equal numbers of wins across the board. Whether this will translate to a draw on the field is impossible to say.

Well, thanks for reading, and good luck! This is AA, reporting from Altador, signing off.

I'm pretty disappointed that KI can't beat TM in SOSD, but nevertheless it was a great match! :D

Well, to be fair, pretty much nobody can beat Terror Mountain in Shootout Showdown. :P

Dang, another loss in the record books.

Well, if anyone is going to win the Altador Cup, it should be LD, my old team. You guys deserve it, and you better beat DC!smile_anim.gif

Oh, you have no idea how hard we'll fight for that! DC won't be getting what we let them have last time. Also, MQ/KI and SK/MD look like intense games! Anything could happen there.

On a side note, I wonder why no one had brought up the US versus Slovenia game in this report. Or at least that the American team has a guy names Altidore, lol! I'm sure he plays Neopets on his spare time.

That match was about 5 hours after this news post was written...
