Website Ideas

Hello TDN Forums! I came to you to answer one simple question, What would you like to see on the internet?

I might create a website, but I don't have any ideas D: Is there anything that you wish there was on the internet, but you haven't seen ANYWHERE? (For example,a...pokemon adoptables site, yes i know that there is one, but if there wasn't you'd want one!) If I like your idea, maybe you'll see that dream website become a reality?

Rules in submitting your ideas:

  • No adult content websites
  • Must be LEGAL
  • Has to be realistic (unacceptable example: I want to see in the future!)
  • No offense, but I can tell you now that I am not making a twilight website

Did I by any chance inspire this rule? :P

I have waaay too many nonsensical geeky ideas to be of much use here. xD Although... I do have one idea that might be applicable. How about a simple site that displays a random joke, anecdote, quote, or other amusing/intriguing text of some kind when visited? You could check out Not Always Right, random things to ponder, or whatever other humorous sites there are out there for sources.

Can we have an Twilight website? xD nope, I want the Legend of Zelda website :K

A bit more specific?

This wouldn't happen with my skills, but LOD Online Game might be fun.

Well how realistic this is depends on your skill as a web developer, but you could perhaps create a site that shows a random place in the world with it's current weather/population/climate

every time it is visited. You could make the locations chosen from be intrepid or unknown areas; for example a small town on the edge of the Sahara.

I just thought that a "random location for armchair travelers" might be fun to see. You would need some client side scripting and various php scripts on the server

I would say, so this could be difficult if your looking for just a design-orientated static site.

If a squirrel fansite might not be to your liking:

TDN fansite(The first fansite for a fansite! xD)

Pokemon Fansite

Icepets Fansite

AC coverage site

Video game reveiw(You could hire CAV! XD)

Or

Something similar to Failblog

A version of Failblog with TDN memberness all over it would be amazing. :O

To everyone: Thank for the ideas, but please be more specific. For example, a fansite is very genereic. If you are thinking of the super awesome generic fansite, that's what I am getting from that word.

What's an icepet?

http://www.icepets.com/homepage.php?

New, very small pet site. One of the owners advertised here a few weeks ago and a few TDNes joined, me being one of them. You could do coverage of all the current events, game guides, item lists, that kinda thing. I must warn you though, they get quite a few hackers and this makes updates rather slow sometimes, but when they comeback they always bring something cool. When someone deleted all the money on the site, they gave it all back, and they gave me an extra 15k plus a few others got bonus icepoints, and when this guy messed up everything last week, they released plushies.

Random remark from a programmer (and amateur web developer): the scripting and web design for this idea doesn't seem particularly difficult, the main issue would be getting the data and keeping it up to date.

Also elaborating on my previous idea, what I had in mind was a simple, no-frills single page website that simply displayed a random amusing or intriguing quote when visited. Like a place you would visit when you need random inspiration or entertainment (I would totally use it as my homepage, especially if it had quotes from TDNers xD ).

I know that it's nothing new, but I would really appreciate a name generator. Preferably, it would be geared toward fantasy role-playing games, and would include names for people, towns, taverns, ships, and maybe artifacts. There aren't enough good name generators out there.

I like masaryk's idea best so far :)

Theo, you realize that there is a family of sites that do thy quote thing? They have specific ones for kinds of quotes/jokes. That actually reminds me of an iPhone app, the philosoraptor.

Ah, but do any of them have TDN quotes? :P

The name generator sounds like a excellent idea though, although I'm afraid I won't be of much help in that field. Me + regular expressions = pain. :(

what do you mean by regular expressions?

Last night was funny *pokes quotes thread*

Regular expressions are one of the most painful programming elements ever devised, at least in my opinion. They're special character sequences written according to some specification or other, used to match specific patterns of text (more info on Wikipedia). I'm fairly sure that it won't be possible to implement an effective name generator without them.
