Just found out

Not sure if I am posting in the right place, but my husband just found out! We have to be in Sydney for a year. I am so excited about it, but overwhelmed. I have lived in the southeastern United States all of my life, so this will be a big change. Is anybody from there? Any advice on moving your family?

I think you'll find it's a really good move. I made the move from Auckland New Zealand to Vancouver, Canada, and found that North Americans have a lot in common with Austrailian/Kiwis. People are really great in Sydney, and it's such a pretty, warm, and welcoming place. Plus, the public transport system is excellent, which really helps. I have friends from South Carolina, and they remind me of Australians. It seems to me that both cultures are socially welcoming, and value time with family and friends, and gatherings to enjoy good food and drink. And Sydney really is a fun (and beautiful) city!

My only advice on moving internationally is to spend a lot of time planning as much from home as you can (like insurance and driving and medical and school records and anything else you might possibly need) because it's always easier to have things arranged before you arrive. The Australian immigration website has some good guides for what you need to know when moving (I actually used their site for advice on moving to Canada!).

I'm sure you'll have a great time, and you'll wish it was longer than one year!

Whoa that's quite a move! But it sure sounds nice.

I've never moved so far yet... So I don't have any advice for you, but I sure hope everything will go okay! :D

Thank you for the good wishes :). BTW, I love your drawing.

Strawberri,

Thank you for the info, I need to go to the imm. website. My husband has been going to Sydney every month for the past 6 months and he thought the same about how friendly and welcoming they are. Thanks again for the great advice :graduated:
