Vixensykerd
Ok, I started playing neopets a while back, in the good old days of Adam etc, around 2000. I recently came back and started a new account. Not much seemed to have changed apart from the odd things that do change over time normally... and then I see the post "CGers got my stuff/neopets/neopoints/account" or something of that ilk... Errmmm Whats a Cookie grabber, how do they get my stuff, and how do I stop them?! Alas, it was a simpler time I guess...
C.A.V.
Cookie grabbers are basicly tracking cookies, they place one on you to keep track of you and they can return to you and place a virus on your computer. The only way you can stop them is if you scan your computer and then have it erased.
Vixensykerd
Ok thanks, but how do they get onto my computer? I'm really not great with this kind of thing...
Unstream
Actually, cookies grabbers are a script that steals cookies from you. Cookies are kinda like bits of information. When you log onto Neopets, a cookie is stored onto your computer so that your computer is telling Neopets that you're logged in. In theory, a cookie grabber steals a cookie and uses it to log onto Neopets from their computer. Some ways to prevent this is to get Mozilla Firefox. Upon doing so, get an add-on called "NoScript", which should prevent cookie grabbers from running. Here's a site if you want more information: http://www.pinkpt.com/scammed_practicaldef...kiegrabbers.htm
Vixensykerd
Thank you very much :) Also looking at the website, its nice to know I don't have to change my browser jsut to be safe! :D
C.A.V.
I think Norton is a good security system as well. If you only use Internet Explorer, get Norton.
Tia
To be extra safe, don't click on any links to shops. My friend got GC from a shop somehow. Also, try to only open any pages that you know are safe/come from a trustworthy source.
Vixensykerd
I'm a little worried about using the shop wizard now, any suggestions for help there?
Viridian
Usually CGs are only in shops where you buy stuff people always need like codestones, bottled fearies etc. People go there because they have codestones up for a really low price. Just avoid those and buy them for a normal price if you really want some. Otherwise you can always ask friends if they have either of those expensive yet useful items for you :) I didn't have any problems with any CGer myself and have just been using the shop wizard as always :)
Strawberri
I have a question about the no-script program. I use it, but I've added neopets to the safe list so it allows cookies from neopets.com. But does that mean that when cookie grabbers are imbedded in shops of lookups that No Script will allow them because they look like they're from neopets? Thanks! stephie23
Actually norton is kind of crappy I've found - it really slows down my computer, and its costly, try AVG its free! :) and works much better than norton
