Tamara
Out of no where, this HUGE UGLY GRAY BLOCK appeared at the top of all my Neopet pages! I have adblock plus, and it did really well blocking EVERYTHING; but now it seems that Neopets is trying to retaliate by making them appear regardless of having AdBlock. Any suggestions? My neopets pet looks horrific.
Viridian
I just checked, it always looks like that on the login screen. Just log in and all should be fine. It works with me ;)
Tamara
I just checked, it always looks like that on the login screen. Just log in and all should be fine. It works with me ;) It doesn't change when I log in. This NEVER EVER SHOWED UP. The stupid part is, I just updated Firefox and Adblocker and its STILL THERE. I'm SO angry right now because no other computer in my house has that freaking BOX. Only my computer does. It just randomly happened!! And it won't go away, no matter what I do! EDIT: Please someone help me find a solution! I'm so frustrated right now..... EDIT 2: Looks like its doing the same thing on MySpace. Gray box, no ads. Theres something seriously wrong here. Kex
I noticed the same thing lately; the hinge on the screen of my laptop broke, so I'm stuck using a spare, and every account but my main(on which I have Premium) is having that issue. In addition, it's been lazy about giving me the little "block" tab that sticks out of ads when you have adblock, so I don't even have the OPTION of blocking certain ads. It's very frustrating. I should be getting my laptop back tomorrow, and when I do I'll see if it has the same problem.

Viridian
Just get a different blocking list then I guess. Works fine with me.
-Ryan
There pushing us to buy premium for the ad-block it has by eliminating the competion. And they said Ad-block are allowed in the editorial too. =/
C.A.V.
Hmm, get norton, they block ads, but they don't cause that problem. I know because I use norton.
Masaryk
I am also having this problem, but I don't use FF as my primary browser for Neopets anymore. I had a similar problem before with only the top area. It seems I had blocked all ads with the "banner" keyword (I was batch blocking ads on a news site). I'm sure that Neopets changed some of their layout code so that one of the keywords in our blocking list is causing this problem. Maybe, if I have time, I'll try to figure it out later. Guest Severus Snape
Yeah, that happened to me last week. What I did was this: 1) Press Ctrl + Shift + E or go to Tools > Adblock Plus Preferences 2) Selects Filters > Add filter subscription. Select Easylist. Subscribe to it. 3) Apply and press OK. Done. :) If it doesn't work, remove all adblock rules and add the filter subscription above.

I really need to try that... the grey block thing happens to me all the time. =(
Deepti M.
I personally don't think that it's that big of a deal...of course I'm not having that issue. :P
Tamara
I've tried everything, and nothing has worked. That stupid grey bar at the top won't leave. I see the CSS thats creating it, too - but I don't think theres anything I can use to block specific CSS. My fiance's computer started doing it as well - so I'm thinking its Neopets altering their code so it shows up regardless of what kind of adblocker you have. They're trying to force the ads onto non-premium users. The strange thing is, my mom's computer hasn't started doing it yet. She's on Vista and uses Mozilla along with Adblocker and its working for her. I don't know whats going on because I haven't had this problem until last night, and no one can find me a solution. #ban { width: 996px; height: 94px; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; This is the CSS that needs to be blocked, but I don't know how to do that. Ubbles
o_ o" I use firefox and I'm not having that problem... I think. << But I don't understand why you're freaking out, you actually WANT ads? I had an ad pop up on the loading screen before my game, but it didn't bother me that much.
SarafinaWolf7
Same things happening with me. Also the Neopets Ads aren't blocked. How do I block them? But I don't understand why you're freaking out, you actually WANT ads? No she doesn't want ads, and she doesn't want the gray space at the top of the page. She's trying to get rid of the gray space. Guest Severus Snape
Firefox can do it all. First, try out my method. If it doesn't work, install Chromedit by clicking the Install button on that page. Restart, go to Tools > Chromedit Plus > Chromedit. Then, select USERCONTENT.CSS (the GREEN one, middle tab), and at the bottom, paste this: #ban { width: 996px; height: 94px; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; Save and restart. Should work.
Tamara
Severus, I totally would have been all over that had I not just payed for Premium. But! I'm keeping this for future reference, when I run out of money. Haha. xD
stephie23
I totally dont even notice the ads anymore... they are there but I mentally block them out! :P lol ... if you hate ads so much, then a grey box must be better than them ? .. otherwise just restore the ads until you can find a viable alternative (other than premium)
~Mike~
I manually block all the adds on my computer with ad-block plus. Its not that neopets is doing anything really all they did was that now they have new adds from a different website. If it isn't blocking it you need to update your list. I noticed a week or so ago that there were a few new. what i block from lets say your inventory page: |http://viacom.adbureau.net/* |http://www.neopets.com/ads/* |https://images.neopets.com/adslug_728.gif this gives you a small idea of what to do
Tamara
I've tried everything in the book. Honestly, I just think its Neopets trying to break through the Adblocker and spam people with ads anyways. Stephanie, the reason they bother me so much it's because they slow down my computer. Its not even because they spam stuff at you all day - its because it makes the site harder to load. My machine can't handle that. Anyhow. I'm closing this board. Thanks for the help all. Guest Severus Snape
Issue fixed (at least for me)! All you have to do is add this line of code to Adblock Plus: neopets.com#div(id^=ban) You can do this by clicking Filters > Add Filter in the Adblock Plus Preferences. Apply and press OK. All done. ;) What I did to solve this was restore my old profile from Aug 7th, which STILL had the old AB Plus Easylist.txt that contained that code. It seems that in a recent update, that line of code was REMOVED, and therefore caused the horrible grey box to display again. Some computers don't have this issue because they are not set to update the list automatically from Easylist's website. Those who had it on (such as me and you guys) noticed it. Only with a manual update, or by turning 'Update subscription automatically' on, is when you notice this. So basically, it's a really simple fix that is permanent (well, unless you remove your adblock rule), no matter how many Easylist.txt updates there are. In the favor of trying to solve this issue, I hereby open this topic for further discussion and to verify if this works. :) This topic has been edited by a member of staff (Severus Snape). Xen
Unless the ads slow your computer down by a significant amount, you really shouldn't be spazzing out about this... If you really want to block it, try using Internet Explorer 7 or 8, and get IE7pro for your IE, then following the instructions here: http://www.thedailyneopets.com/articles/block-ads-ie/ It worked nicely for me in IR7 before switching to Firefox. My computer has those ads too, but it's fast enough so I don't have to worry about them.
Guest Severus Snape
Don't get me wrong, now, but the users who had issues are using Firefox, not IE. And I don't recall them saying that they'd switch just to find an alternative. I, for one, block ads because they are intrusive and annoying. Not because my system is slow. Everyone should have the right to do so, for the reasons they want. ;) Still, good for IE users.
Xen
I haven't tried ad blocker for Firefox yet, last time I did, the whole thing crashed... I may get ad blocker - a lot of good comments on it. *sigh good old neopets back in the days...
Masaryk
I can verifiy that this handy little piece of code worked for me. No more grey space at the top. ABP is still working wonderfully. Thank you, Severus, for taking the time to solve this issue. I'm glad that not everyone is as lazy as I am.
