Full story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/manhattan_plane_crash This crash leaves us all thinking the same thing: How? It has been determined that this was an accident, but should aircrafts be aloud to travel so close to cities? With all the new security in the country we failed to take into account private aircraft, are we realy safe?
Ellie_Penguin
oh not another one. Well, the plane was flying under bad weather gosh it's so sad. :crying:
Foxy!
I know that when I first saw it, I thought that it was terrorists. Then I watched the TV for a few minutes, and saw that it was because the plane had flown too close to buildings. Its very sad, and I fell real sorry for the yankees. Chipmonker
Remember kids, don't drink and fly. No really, I'm serious. I have known ( :( ) people who have ended up in very bad situations.

HAhaha, that was priceless. But it turns out it was a private plane carrying a yankees pitcher, who died.
.Dan.
I don't see why it's such a big deal. With today's skyscrapers being literally sky-scrapers,it isn't easy being a pilot.

The pilot was the pitcher, he and his flying instructor died in the crash. There was a mayday message right before the crash so I suspect engine failure...
Strategos
Engine failer? I know, it's really, really sad. Oh, and about the Red Sox, you're probably right.
Pancreatic dragon
... I thought that there was no mayday call.
Guest strophysicist
I just re-read some articles, you're right there was no mayday call. Also there is proof that it couldn't be engine failure.
Samuel
Wikipedia: "There is no indication that the aircraft's Ballistic Recovery Systems emergency parachute, designed to bring the plane down safely, was deployed. The FAA confirmed that the plane was flying under visual flight rules (VFR) and attracted no special attention from air traffic controllers or NORAD before the crash. The aircraft took a hard 90-degree turn before it hit the building." Just a bad accident :( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_11%2C...ity_plane_crash WNBC-TV reports that the aircraft departed from Teterboro Airport in Teterboro, New Jersey. According to multiple reports, Lidle planned on flying to Tennessee, where he had a hotel room booked for the night, then to Dallas, Texas and finally on to his home in California. Ellie_Penguin
It was just an accident. Do they know who was flying the plane?
Guest strophysicist
Wow, Samuel knows more about what happened in my country than I do! But it does sound familiar. The pilot has not been determined yet, it does matter. For life insurance, yada yada yada...
Samuel
:D Don't I just? "If authorities determine that Lidle was indeed the pilot, his beneficiaries could unfortunately be excluded from receiving accidental death benefits. Although Lidle was covered by the players' association's benefit plan, there is an exclusion for "any incident related to travel in an aircraft...while acting in any capacity other than as a passenger". The total benefit is reportedly 1.5 million dollars."
Lutarist Jake
Who, may I know is Lidle?
Ellie_Penguin
Who, may I know is Lidle? Cory Lidle was a Yankees pitcher. You can read more about him and his death on Wikipedia. I have the feeling he was the one flying the plane. He said he was going to take a sightseeing around Manhattan before his trip to CA and he already knew how to fly... "Two days after Lidle's crash, on October 13, 2006, Lidle's Yankees teammate Alex Rodriguez was a passenger aboard a private jet that slid off the runway in Burbank, California at Bob Hope Airport. No one was injured and the NTSB is investigating the incident." Coincidence?
