Monica
No, I am totally not asking for donations, I worry about my neopoints in the bank, and about my pets going hungry, I have checked my capslock and have even been locked out for 1 hour at a time because it says I had the wrong password, I submitted my claim and am waiting semi-patiently for their response. I will keep ya'll posted... and Thank you for your encouragement and support. DO NOT SEND NEOPOINTS. Thank you.
Mimii
I still refuse to believe it. I think there is something you aren't telling us. Did you go to any suspicious sites that grabbed your cookies, or had you enter your neopets info to get free stuff? Yeah I am going to agree with everyone else here. I don't see why you don't believe her and frankly who cares if you don't. It's not like she was asking us for help, NPs, items, etc. Even if she DID make it up, who cares? It's not a big deal. I mean that would be dumb to make something up for attention but it's not hurting anyone else. No one is asking you to have a little faith, we're just saying "Ok you don't believe her. Who cares." Well, I am anyway. I'm sorry that this happened to your account and I sincerely hope you get some resolution.
ChaoticFission
when i was younger, my awesomesauce account got stolen by one of my friends. he just guessed at my password until he got it. i lost another pretty nice account because another "friend" peeked at my password while i was entering it. both of the cases just happened to be at the public library. another time that i almost lost my account, i was using one of the computers at an internet cafe. fortunately for me, i scanned the computer prior to entering my credentials to find out that it had a keylogger installed. moral? don't trust everyone and don't use public computers. onime_no_kai
Haven't been on the Forums in forever, but this thread caught my eye -- I just had the EXACT same thing happen to me today. I leave my account logged in on my laptop because it is always with me and no one else accesses it ever. Today I went to go do dailies and such and found myself logged out; password didn't work and my email had been removed from the account (as confirmed when I went to a side, which fortunately I could still get into -- changed the email and words right away.) I would never, ever go to a fake login page or give my information to any kind of scam. I have my favorite pet (as well as all of my trophies and most of my Neo-assets) on that account), so I'm extremely upset. But as angry as I am about my Neo account, what I'm more worried about is that to remove one's email from Neopets, you first have to confirm it from that email address, meaning someone else must have been able to get into it. Nothing else seems amiss with my various emails and such, but I changed all of my words on every account I could think of (from email to online rent-pay and beyond) immediately, and I suggest you do the same. I use FF, have the NoScript and AdBlock addons, and have everything else someone who's only somewhat computer literate can do to protect a computer. I have no idea what else I could have done to prevent this, nor do I have any clue how it happened in the first place. But it certainly sounds like whatever happened to you might have been the same as what happened to me. Submitted a report, no idea if I'll get the account back (or failing that, if it'll at least be frozen before whoever's in it steals everything -- I had everything PINned, but for all I know they were able to figure that out too.) Good luck to both of us, eh? :(
ChaoticFission
scan your computer. if you really didn't go to any shady sites, you have most likely contracted a trojan virus aka keylogger. a good anti virus program to use if AVG Free if you don't have one. Sapphy the Swamp Witch
I'm really sorry :(. I know it hurts a lot to lose an account, for whatever reason. Good luck getting it back!
Deepti M.
I lost my account to TDN too, but it was frozen for "profanity" I only had 250,000 (made quite a splurge and put it in my safety deposit box) so I guess it's alright. -sobs a little- But on the bright side, I have 100,000 NP now! onime_no_kai
scan your computer. if you really didn't go to any shady sites, you have most likely contracted a trojan virus aka keylogger. a good anti virus program to use if AVG Free if you don't have one. Actually, after discovering the thief definitely did have my Neo-PIN and that there was something malicious on my computer (it cleared the immunization function on Spybot S&D and kept trying to mess with my other antivirus) I came to the same conclusion. Still not sure how I got the stupid thing though, definitely did *not* go to any shady sites. ;) I did visit a rather peculiar UL; I've been wondering if someone's found a coding loophole again. I ran scans with Spybot and my antivirus and they didn't find it; at this point it's not worth downloading AVG, I'm just going to go in to our helpdesk tomorrow and have the computer reimaged -- it's a bit of a pain but not really a huge deal for me, and that will make absolutely sure it's gone. But once I get it reimaged I certainly will download AVG, had it on my old computer and I think it does better than the program our laptops come with. :P The account is *finally* frozen, though it took them so long that there's no way it's not completely cleaned out. :/ I did get *very* lucky in one respect -- the thief pounded my Draik, but the person who got him was innocent and, once I explained the situation, kind enough to give him back. I am extremely grateful to her; honestly never expected that she would be willing to do that. Still ticked that I lost my good account, but I guess I can't complain after that. :P
ChaoticFission
well, it could've been worse. at least you still have your pet. i know how you feel though.
x10sosa
I have a tendency not to believe these stories simply because of this: Why would anyone want to hack/hijack YOU? Perhaps you did something different in your login process. Until I see proof that you can't log in, I'm just gonna have to shake my head. That's kind of a silly question, don't you think? I think the real question is, "Why wouldn't they?". It doesn't matter how young and little your account may be, you still have some money, some items to sell and make money. It's lousy, that's for flippin' sure, but I'm sure those little punk hackers make tons of neopoints. Jerks. :axehead: I just set up that pin code all over my neopets account so even if they do get in, they can't access my safety deposit box, my shop, or my bank account. They definetely can't change my email so if they do get in, I can just send their password to my email, get back in, and change it so THEIR out. That's my strategy. ^_^ Also I have about three scanners on my computer and a pal that has mad skills on the computer. He knows how to keep me clean, he works in school's as a programmer. Gotta keep my information safe! :king: This post has been edited by a member of staff (Ruto) because of a violation of the forum rules. Please do not double post; use the edit button instead. Deepti M.
I went out and bought Norton 360 when I heard about this. It cost me about 100 bucks, which is pretty cheap. I think you should buy it too since it works really well!
ChaoticFission
norton is not the best A/V out there. i would recommend something along the lines of Kaspersky Suite or AVG Pro.
Deepti M.
Norton is not bad though. If you're looking for a cheap, good option, use Norton. If you're looking for the best option, listen to Chaoticfission. (I'm not trying to be rude BTW!)
Unstream
Actually, I'm pretty sure the ones Chaotic Fission mentioned are free. I dunno for sure though.
Deepti M.
Seriously. o-0 Well I prefer the ones that you buy, because those are the safer ones. They're usually the most trusted too.
Unstream
Well I wouldn't be too sure about that. The ones that are bought are usually the ones most targeted by hackers. I mean, there are a lot more people trying to find ways to get around McAfee than a lesser known AV like Avast (might not be a good example, but *shrugs*)
Deepti M.
I don't agree with that idea at all, because things like that are actually harder to hack then the free ones.
ChaoticFission
Actually, I'm pretty sure the ones Chaotic Fission mentioned are free. I dunno for sure though. no, you have to pay for both. you might be thinking about AVG Free, which i am currently using in leu of the pro version. it works quite well, although you are not given the same level of in-depth protection as you are with the paid variation. also, i would suggest to regularly scan your computer for adware/malware and various other malicious things that the internet has to offer. spybot and adaware are two decent scanners for that. kitkat_a45
I've been having weird things happen too. Yesterday I logged into my account and I had twelve new items that I was carrying. I thought it might have been a glitch that I profited from. Then today I logged in and all of my neopoints are gone from my bank. I don't have any freinds or family that would use my computer to play my game. It doesn't make any sense. It seems like someone has figured out my passwords and is using my account. Luckily I haven't had anything frozen yet or lost anything of great value other than 2,000,000 NP, so I changed my pins and passwords. Is there anything else I can do? Monica
Well, it's been 11 days since I got locked out of my neopets account, and apparently it's now "Frozen" because whoever got it tried to scam or something, so I emailed TNT and asked to be unfrozen, and am silently sitting on pins and needles and crossing my fingers. I miss my pets and I hate that someone abused my account, it's sickening. Almost 5 years on Neopets and this happens... <shakes head> I just wish whoever took my account gets a big tummy-ache and feels real guilty. livvy
Aww, that reeks. *crosses fingers hopefully* Good luck, Monica.
Monica
Thanks livvy. I just want to say, why in god's green earth would someone work their fanny off for almost 5 years...with a spotless record.... playing Neopets just to turn around and scam for points, avatars and/or items? Think about it, I don't think so... I hate having ANYONE think I would scam, Neopets is for fun, leisure, and relaxation, I just dont see the point in anyone scamming or scamming anyone! I just want to scream!!!!
livvy
Why in God's green earth would someone scam for something stupid like avatars anyway? It's just sad. It's not that they think YOU are a scammer. But they have no idea what's been going on with your account, so they had to freeze it if it was scamming. I'm really sorry. =\
silent_penace
I hate to necromance this thread but, Monica, I am curious if you account issues were cleared up? Monday night when I came home from work I found myself locked out of my account. When I tried to get neopets to send me my password they said they didn't have my e-mail. I quickly filled out the form to report it. Tuesday one of my pets was put up for adoption. I still haven't heard from neopets and worried I'll lose more of my pets before they respond. tempdisplay
Oh my that happened to me as well. All you can do is stay hopeful. Emily replied to me but I'm still waiting for her main decision. But all you can do is keep hoping. Hah, man it hurts waiting, I mean my pets... Oh and they froze the account, V said is so the hacker doesn't get in. The sad news is when I contacted the hacker, they said after they finished with the account they'll give it back but they just abandonned it. My pets :crying:
