Queen Diva
Have you read it? How do you interpret it? Do you believe in it? What is your opinion on the book that has sold the most copies throughout the world? Are you religous? What does your religion think of the Bible? Yes I've read it. I interpret it as a book with some good stories emphasising or trying to teach a moral code. I however can't believe that it wasn't written by someone. And through the years some things have been changed, because lets face it, the original language that it was written in is obsolete and any interpretation is going to be a bit sketchy. I was raised Muslim... not practising and not from a family that is hardcore in any way. However I have also read the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Gnostic Gospels and am trying to get my hands on the Torah because I believe that all religions are very interesting. I've also attended Pagan rituals and read through quite a bit of literature in regards to the Pagan faith as well. My thoughts basically are that all these religions have come from basically the same place, they've just been translated into different languages and now call themselves different things. I think it's a huge joke played on humanity and that everyone is fighting, killing and doing all these things in the name of religion, only all the religions are basically about the same thing. One god. It's amazing what people will do in the name of religion! Oh dear, I went off topic... sorry!!!
Ellie_Penguin
Here's an article from CNN that talks about a new finding. http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/10/30/...text/index.html In my opinion, if that isn't proof enough, then I don't know what it is. That's all the "technology" they had back then so there's no other way, we'll be able to know what happened. Unless, they come back from the dead. Just because it happened thousands of years ago, doesn't mean it never happened. There's a reason why the world changed and why Faith is still out there. Even back then, a lot of people who saw it with their own eyes, didn't believe. And I'm pretty sure, if it happened again today, some people won't believe it, still. It's just the way I see it. Snakeystew
Have you read it? How do you interpret it? Do you believe in it? What is your opinion on the book that has sold the most copies throughout the world? Are you religous? What does your religion think of the Bible? I have debated theology for a couple of decades now and have read the bible countless times. I will however save lengthy discussion that many might not be familiar and just give you the blunt version: It contains talking snakes, magical fruit, men living inside the belly of whales, gods impregnating earthlings, the sun being stopped in the sky, kids being killed by bears for calling a man bald, global floods, raped angels, women riding flying dragons. Why would any sane, rational individual believe it? The answer to that question is of course emotional reasons. They want a god to exist so that they can believe they're off to a better life, (life part II), once they're dead. That everything they do in this existence isn't for nothing, that they are loved and special and not destined to the same inevitable fate as pond slugs and bacteria. The thing is of course, if you mention all of these things straightforward and up front to a religious man, he'll also tell you it's not true. "Adam and Eve? Oh, that's just metaphor" etc. Nobody in their right mind believes it but they have no choice but to hang onto whatever parts they possibly can to save emotional turmoil. To quote Twain; "Faith is believing what you know aint so". 'Faith' is the most ridiculous notion of ridiculous notions but naturally it is all the religious man has - a complete absence, a complete lack of anything to support belief in ancient nonsense. Can't blame the ancient people, they didn't know anything about the world or universe. There's no excuse for it in this day and age, (aside from the fact that we are still a very emotional creature). --- And finally: Stephen F Roberts: "I contend that we are all atheists, I just believe in one less god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you'll understand why I dismiss yours".
