I did a brown zafara just because I like when the pet can hold things with their hands. A spotted uni looked nice too, but the jacket and necklace are species specific so you would have to change those. I was going for sort of the farmyard witch look, but if I knew more about the series I might try for her being in Faerie. I couldn't find anything for the little blue dudes except for the wind up skeleton. Does she use a wand or a staff or anything for her magic? Because there are several items that might be better than the frying pan. There aren't too many green dresses, but some of the royal pets have green dresses if you're ok with a grarrl or gnorbu.

This makes me want to read the discworld series! I've been told about it before, but haven't actually read any of the books yet.

I don't have much backstory for my pets other than the fact that one is my pet while the other is my husband's pet. I know he would never be interested in getting an account so I got his input when I made my second pet and I'll give him updates on what 'his pet' is up to. :laughingsmiley: It's sort of fun because it means my pets support different teams during the altador cup and I sometimes come up with very interesting customizations that I might not have if the pet was just another pet of mine.

I used to spend most of my np on my gallery, but I'm down to mostly super expensive stuff so I'm just trying to save right now. I like to go on random shopping sprees for wearables or neohome items. I'm slowly but surely trying to make my neohome look nice. I just rearranged everything so it is a complete mess right now.

It's totally ok to be nervous. This is a big life change! If your college is anything like mine then you will be in a freshman engineering class that will teach you programming, problem solving, how to think, and how to fail. (Yes that is correct. Some of our projects were almost impossible. Our grades were curved because when everyone fails together, the question is who got closer to succeeding.) If you decide that engineering isn't for you then it will be much easier to get out of engineering and into one of the other sciences than it would be to get into engineering from something else.

 

On the topic of grades, I would like to caution you that college is going to be different from high school. I was one of those straight A students who never had to work too hard or study very much. College classes are different. Some professors made homework optional or didn't force you to complete labs if you didn't finish them during the time allotted. You will still be tested on the material. You still need to know everything that has been covered. I'm not trying to freak you out. I'm just warning you that you may need to change your study habits in order to do well and you may have to change how you think about grades. A 'B' is completely acceptable and even an accomplishment depending on how hard you worked for it!

 

And finally, have fun!!!! Make friends with your roommate, if possible. Make friends with people on your floor or your classes and try to schedule times to meet up with people to eat together. Everyone has to eat and it's lonely to eat by yourself, so ask people if they want to eat lunch together after class or meet up for dinner. See what clubs are available to join and go to several before you decide what to stick with. I only had time to join one group during my freshman year because studying and homework consumed so much of my time. Once freshman engineering was over I was able to join a social dance club. That's actually where I met all of my closest college friends. So even if this year isn't so great, there's always next year!

 

One more random thing... When you're scheduling classes for next year, look at what you are actually required to take. Do you have to take econ or stats specifically? Or do you just need an elective? I was able to take some really fun classes because I chose my own electives that fit my degree requirements rather than just taking what everyone else took.

I forgot to go on Neopets for a month once. My pet was starving. I waited hours for some free food. I'm a terrible person  0:)

 

This is totally me! I don't even feed them the free food. I go to the healing springs until she makes them bloated. Then I don't have to worry about it for a few more days.

 

I struggled for a long time to save up np to spend on my gallery. I remember getting that first million and being so thrilled to spend it all on my silver string negg lights. (It might have been 1.5 or even 2mil, regardless I spent it all the moment I had enough.) Now that I don't have a specific goal in mind, I just let my np sit in the bank. I like seeing the interest add up and any time I withdraw anything, even to buy stocks, I hate seeing those numbers drop. Like most everyone else who has posted, I keep telling myself I will buy that paintbrush or weapon when I hit X amount, but X amount always passes and I'm still saving. I want to have enough to be like those people who are able to throw millions away on items for events without their bank account feeling anything. Obviously I have a long way to go...

I like the Illusen doll because it is cute and it matches my green font well. I've done Speckled before because I collect neggs, but I haven't been actively trying to add to my gallery for a while. If they did a pink negg avatar then I would probably switch to that. My neoboard siggy is green and pink. :)

Do you have a budget for your petpets? I fell in love with a faerie eizzil before realizing how much faerie petpet paintbrushes were. (My previous eizzil got eaten by the Turmaculus and I decided I didn't want to just replace her with a new orange eizzil.) I like to use this jellyneo search to see all of the petpets in addition to their approximate prices. It really does have all the petpets, including labray petpets that cannot be purchased.

I got the red pteri momentarily about an hour ago, but neopets started working again seconds later. Hopefully it won't take too long for them to get back up. I was hoping to stow away my np in the bank before logging off for the night...

When neopets is down, your habitarium will progress as if you were offline.

I've been browsing the trading post and auctions the past week in an attempt to grab neggs for my gallery that I don't already have. I happened across a trade today that was full of neggs and said "maybe free" for what they wanted. I took a look at the neggs and noticed that some of them were actually rather pricy to be given away. I neomailed the owner and asked if they had a price that would be acceptable, because free was just too good to be true. They mailed me back and said that they were leaving neo and those neggs were for a friend. I was disappointed, but said I wouldn't bid on them and that she should consider leaving some of her pricy items in her SDB in case she decided to come back later. So then I get a neomail a bit later from her that says her friend doesn't want the neggs and that she has more in her SDB to give away. What incredible luck! I'm still wondering if this is too good to be true and if something fishy is going on, but she has trades with all kinds of stuff for free. It really does seem as if she just wants to get rid of everything. So anyways, I just had to share my happy news for the day. My gallery increased by about 30 neggs today! Woohoo! :thumbsup:

If it's anything like last year, then you can have a different partner for each challenge, but you do need to challenge the same person, either both challenge AAA or both challenge Abigail. What a lot of people do is get the score to beat the challenge, then find a partner on the neoboards who also has a score ready to beat the challenge. That way you are guaranteed to have someone who beats the challenge with you.

I was debating whether to see it or not, but... I don't know. It's not in theatres anymore, is it?

 

We have a cheapo theatre near us that shows the movies that are already gone from the regular movie theatres. It makes watching movies much more affordable and we also don't feel like we're wasting money if we see a movie that isn't all that great. So to answer your question, yes. Tintin is no longer in the regular movie theatres.

 

TinTin : nice movie .. for an old-time TinTin fan like me .. they did a really good job capturing the characters and the spirit of the comic books .. even the dog (his real name is Milo but they changed it to Snowy in English)

 

I'd love to read the comic books! Do you know if there is a site I could read them online? I'd really like to read the specific comics that the movie was based off of.

 

I guess the dog has a different name everywhere. :P His original original name, in Wallonia (the french part of belgium) is Milou, in Flanders (the Dutch part of Belgium) and in Holland he is called Bobby, and it's Snowy in English...

I find it amusing that they change the dog's name for each different language. I guess it would make sense that they give him a typical dog name that fits for each audience. After all, this story is about Tintin, not the dog! And yes, the movie is good and worth seeing. ^_^

- finish buying and collecting items for my gallery (this will be a long time!)

- make my gallery look nice and enter it into the weekly competition

- work on those expensive avatars once I'm no longer saving up for gallery items

- buy all those species specific clothes for my pets that are way too expensive to even think about right now :P

 

Those are the main goals right now. I actually really like the basic colors for my pets, so I don't think I'll be saving up for paintbrushes any time soon. I'd also like to get my pets trained up to be battledome pets, but that's not a very high priority at the moment.

I always appreciate people like you, Karina, who specify the price or item that they would like in exchange for their item. I get very frustrated when I search for an item and most of the listed trades have 'none' for their wishlist. Then I start thinking, "Well, do I neomail everyone who doesn't have a price listed to ask them what they want? Or do I just choose the lowest listed price?" It makes it a lot easier to choose one person to neomail. I always neomail the person before bidding to ensure that they will accept my offer.

 

Sometimes I like to see what prices are on the trading post so that I know what I need to save up for. No prices listed is even more frustrating at those times, because I don't like pestering someone with a neomail when I know I probably don't have the np for their item yet.

I'm really excited about seeing this movie! I think it looks super cute, but I am wondering to what degree the environmentalist ideas will be shoved in your face. I don't think it will be bad enough for me not to enjoy the movie. After all, I really enjoyed Wall-E and the discussion that it prompted. I'm sure The Lorax will be along similar lines.

My husband and I just recently watched The Adventures of Tintin. It was great! Very cute movie with lots of little twists and the best thing is that it wasn't super predictable. You know those movies where you know what's going to happen before you're even a third of the way through? This was not one of those movies. It was rather unrealistic at points, but hey it's based on a comic strip! I really liked it and would recommend it as a lighthearted, happy movie.

Most of the quest items requested from me during the event were extremely affordable. The one or two that might have cost me were items that I happened to have in my SDB or closet and I did reject the faerie that asked for tears of the water faerie. I always look at the price of the item requested, the stats that will be given, and determine whether it's worth it at that point in time. I'm starting to train up both of my pets now, but they're both still at the pirate academy, so training is currently very affordable.

Gotta say, Gunnslinger is an awesome name for a male pet! A lot of the other names people have mentioned creating in this thread are great names in my opinion. I tend to like longer names that have a nice sound to them and I prefer to have a single name (no last name) without numbers or underscores. There are definitely short names that are great too, but they're a bit more of a challenge to create.

 

Leurabelle was created because I like names that begin with 'L', I wanted something that sounded feminine, and I like flowers. I realize that fleur and leur are completely different words in French, but I wanted the name to start with an L and I thought Leurabelle sounded nice. :)

 

Fideifensor is a mash of Latin I found on wikipedia. 'Defendor of Faith' is the translation it was based off of. I wanted to create a pet that my husband could think of as his own without actually needing to create an account or play neopets, so he chose the species and we came up with the name together. :) So now I can tell him about how I've customized 'his pet' or how I'm putting 'his pet' into training.

I'd just like to mention that it seems necessary to have a very fast connection/computer in order to restock well. I never manage to snag really great stuff because my computer thinks rather slowly and the internet connection isn't always the best.

I'm letting my pets get down to Dying status before I go for the av, but it is so sad! They're still at hungry/very hungry, and I hope it doesn't take another whole day. I've had to construct in my head that want it as much as I do. xp

 

Personally I think that's the surest way to get the avatar quickly once you have the money issue taken care of. I don't remember quite how many servings of soup it took to get the avatar, but it was at least half way through feeding my two pets up to bloated from dying... One thing to keep in mind if you are waiting for them to get super hungry is that there is a possibility of the healing springs or the magical grundo plushie decreasing your active pet's hunger.

I like the colors and how much more organized it seems. The staff picks area is a fun new addition. I'll miss the recently played area, but I think the favorites always showing down at the bottom makes up for that. I dislike that there is no area specifically for sponsor games like there used to be. You also can't search for 'ad' or 'sponsor' and have the current sponsor games come up. I always liked to see what was new in that section because those tend to be easy np while they last. There does seem to be an ad/sponsor game specific section in the showcase games, but it only shows three games as opposed to all of them.

Buy 1000 shares of a stock priced at 15 every day and eventually one of those stocks will go up to a point where you have made a profit and are willing to sell. Some people wait for a large profit and others don't. It depends on whether you want quick money or not. In general, the stock market is not the place for quick money. It can take a long time for your investments to produce profit. I'm pretty sure the stocks increase and decrease at random, so there's no telling when one might shoot up. Just buy low, sell high. :)

No she can't. I remember that I was working on the stock avatar when I got the soup faerie avatar. I completely forgot about that. I don't know that you would get into trouble for transferring np to your side temporarily. I didn't want to risk it being suspicious, so the money I transferred over basically stayed over there until I used it for my gallery.

I'm not getting a red pteri or anything. I thought it was just my computer because it simply says my browser can't connect. I didn't think to post on here, because I thought it was just me. :shiftyeyes_anim: Apparently not.

Oops, yes. That might be a US only thing. Do you have Target stores where you live? If not you may have to haunt ebay or try to arrange something with someone in the states.
