  1. This is going to be extroadinarily bias seeing as I very much dislike Twilight. Harry Potter by a long shot. The characters are realistic, the setting is FAR more creative but still adheres to the rules we've come to know about magic. It's basically what Twilight COULD'VE been, if it was done right. It disproves every argument I've heard from Twilight fans trying to justify that Twilight it good despite having shallow characters (argument: It's a fantasy book so they don't have to be realistic!) and destroying the ALREADY destroyed history of vampires (argument: She's just being original!) Harry Potter disproves both the arguments, because despite being set in an even MORE unbelievable setting, it still have very believable characters. And Rowling manages to keep what we understand to be wizards and witches, while still filling in the blanks. Think about it. Imagine if Rowling made it where the witches and wizards of Hogwarts don't use magic, but rather decide it's "too dangerous" and only study it, but were still considered witches and wizards and those who use it are the evil people. And for them to use it would destroy everything they can think of. THAT is what Meyer's did to vampires. And that can be done, but it's a delicate plot device that needs to be done very well. Meyers isn't a very experienced writer and so she shouldn't be playing around with stuff like that.

Especially when she doesn't even have the ability to put an actual lesson in her books that isn't a cliche. Harry Potter has several.

I'm not a big fan of either series, but you can tell that at the very least, Harry Potter has some feeling. It's not just a fanfiction that was made into four books and published in a matter of three years (that's 1.3 books a year, wow, that's a lot of effort right? That was sarcasm). It has 3D characters who deal with the most extraordinary of problems but the writer is talented enough to make those seem relateable and realistic. That's the art of writing. Making fiction into reality. Meyers doesn't do that. Even when she's using a realistic setting, everything about her characters and lessons are so deplorable and such a bad influence to the point where she can't even conform to the FANTASY of her writing. Let alone the realism. That's the sign of a bad writer. Twilight is nothing but a marketing tool. It uses comfortable settings and makes characters that appeal to a demographic that is FAMOUS for eating up anything that teaches them they can have a boyfriend that will be with them forever.

Harry Potter has romance but it's so subtle that I actually appreciate it. I'm not a big fan of romance in books as it tends to be rushed and not follow the rules of how romance is usually done. Harry Potter follows those rules. The romance doesn't overshadow the actual story. And most importantly, the relationships have obviously chemistry. Bella and Edward have no chemistry. This is mostly because they have no personality of which to speak, but that's probably why they lack any sort of bond whatsoever. Twilight is basically saying that "if you have a crush on that hot guy in front of you, you can fall in love with him and it will last even if you have no clue who he is". Attraction does not equate to love.

Anyways I'm done. Feel free to tell me how wrong I am.

  2. Oh gosh...well I'm pretty sure the first account I made was when I was 9 or 10. So that would make it 8 or 9 years. I know it was before I turned 13 since I remember lying about my age to get on the boards (you know you did it too). I've played on and off though. I went through a long hiatus of not playing when I was a Sophomore and Junior because it felt too little-kiddish. I played Gaia Online instead. Which is totally NOT little-kiddish (yes it is). I've started again though. I think the new layout turned me off for a while too. Too hard to get used to at the time. But I'm used to it now.

  3. I'm 18 and I still play. Not autistic as far as I know. But my brother plays and he is autistic, and I work with severely autistic kids (but are often still competent enough to play a computer game). Neopets has a certain charm that attracts all ages, all mentalities, everyone. It seems like High School is that time when it's "uncool" to play Neopets, even though I know a lot of High Schoolers still do. But in that time, everything is uncool. But once you get back into adulthood, you get back into it. The reason there are fewer adults playing is adults don't usually have time. Whereas kids can usually MAKE time.

  4. Since when!? D:

I'm surprised newsy people haven't jumped on this. There's a new Caption Contest up:

    caption_975.gif

I was so confused when I saw this! I didn't know it was Elephante Day. D: I always forget when days are coming up. I know that Zafara Day is sometime soon but I'm never going to remember the others. I almost wish I could put a Neopets calender on the header so I can see it all the time. This is why I never have art ready for the Art Contest on special days. :<
  5. I always think I've had those moments. I swear I've checked to see if I got the Snowager avatar at least twelve times. Probably because I'm so frustrated that I get blasted daily and still no sign of the avatar.

I do it with concerts too. I saw the Jazzmosis concert and got the avatar. Then I saw it again and had a short freak-out moment wondering "WHERE'S MY AVATAR!?" when I had already gotten it a month ago. : )
  6. Aw, I'm sorry to hear you're leaving. I suppose life catches up with you though. I think posting it here is an intelligent decision by the way. Chat on Neo can get dramatic about this type of thing I've noticed. Anywho, onto business. I would like to adopt either your baby Lupe, Solitare or your fire Pteri, Cypress (I like that...Cypress.)

I would like to adopt Solitare because OMG BABY SO CWOOT! Yes, quite. When I've played my daily 50k and done everything I can do, I go through the Baby Neopet Colours just so I can see how cute they all are. Baby Lupes are up in my top three too. Obviously that isn't my only reason but that was the first thing I noticed. Hard to miss something that cute. Obviously, I like his name. It may make my solitaire addiction worse but the creative spelling more than makes up for that. I can't say I can help improve his intelligence much since he's obviously a child prodigy. I would do my best though. He would probably become my F.E.A. buddy though. And my new model. While I love my little Koi Angie, she is a tough cookie to draw. The only reason I have a Shoyru is I'm holding him for my brother. But I could draw a Lupe. Especially such a cute baby one! (*squee*). That would include the Beauty Contest most likely. If you want to see some of my art there's a couple Neo-related pieces on Angie's petpage.

The Fire Pteri is...I don't know. Something about fire pets is just appealing to me. Which is strange because usually I'm big for water and everything concerning water. But Maraquan pets don't interest me at all. It's all about fire pets. That and, as I said before, I love his name. Cypress. That's awesome. Given that he is such an amazingly awesome colour, he would probably become my Battledome pet. In case you haven't noticed I tend to give all my pets jobs. Angie is technically an only child right now though so she has to do everything. (Poor thing).

Regardless of whether or not I am chosen or who I adopt, I feel obliged to say they will probably be in my comic that I'm working on. I've been searching for a pet to be a part of it. Again, Angie is just too hard to insert into stuff. Seeing as she's a fish and most pets...well aren't. I'm also working on a written series, unrelated, and probably not going to feature them but just so you know a little about me. I'm trying to reach into the art and writing scene on Neo. And the random contests. Unfortunately I have no clue how to make a snowglobe. D:

About Lutari's, don't they also run away if you TRY to abandon them?

  7. Well because, as many homosexuals use as their defense about marriage, its about LOVE, not sex. So if love is truly blind, then its very possible (but not very probable, imo) that, for example, a gay man to marry a woman. This, by the way (although off-topic) is why I don't believe love is just love, love is for sure a lust-mixed thing for most people.

Lust-mixed is kind of a harsh word. Of course you're going to need some sort of attraction. That's what makes romantic love romantic. I really hate that love argument. That "well as far as love goes, I love my sister but I don't want to marry here" kind of thing. There are different kinds of love. Among them is romantic love. And you can't easily have a romance unless some kind of sex is involved. The main purpose of sex is to join to people (*coughnotmakebabiescough*). If you can't really stand to look at someone let alone sleep with them, that is going to cause seriously unneeded tension. And furthermore, if you can't have sex with a person because they just don't do anything for you (i.e. having sex with a person outside of your genderly attractions) then there is going to be tension. I'm sure it's completely possible but that would take two very specific people which are very rare.

Seriously, your comparison is akin to me making sex illegal unless you're making children. Have you ever read The Giver? Yeah, that would be our world if that sort of logic were made into law.

  8. I am NOT a Neoholic. >:/

    I quit, gundangit. [/cranky old man/lady act]

But welcome to our humble little TDN.

I am Laura, and I am you hostess for... oh about twenty-seven more seconds.

Hostess? Sweet, I'll take the grilled chicken with a side order of fries and...can I get that to go?

    Oh wait...

You are so a Neoholic. THE FIRST STEP IS ADMITTING YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.
  9. It lags even on my normal computer. Horribly. I will get into a mini game and it will already be won and finished. It took me a while to decide it was my computer making the problems (except that one person I played with who finished the Faellie maze in 7 seconds. No, really. It loaded and I could see her making points in that time frame. That I believe is impossible but most of the time my computer is just being lame). It makes it really difficult to play and especially with people leaving out of poor-sportsmanship, that makes it hard for people to leave because of slow-computership.

  10. You're all going to hate me, but I go lucky with the Water Plant and just managed to be able to turn a few knobs and I was done. Hadn't even started keeping track. So I would say...the entire thing was really long and tedious. Finding the Punch Club seemed to be the most annoying since I'd lose track of where I'd check. Vaelous was annoying because I did the math wrong the first time but I figured it out eventually.

  11. Herm..TNT planning something like this doesn't sound like something I've ever heard of, especially to use such harsh methods without anyone having a clue.

This isn't the first mass attack against users and I'm certain it wont be the last.

I'm just going to wait it out and play it safe because it sounds too off to be on purpose by TNT.

(Unless Ian was behind it..then..maybe...but even that is a stretch)

Well it that isn't the case then I at least hope whoever is behind it comes forward and explains how. It would require some form of hacking to get those petpages edited in the first place unless it's some sort of group thing with a few people doing all this.

  12. Yay someone else has too much time on their hands. I'm not touchin' chit but my dailies now until this is resolved.

I just spent way to long discussing this and once again I've been exposed to people who can't seen to read basic English and assume that when I say "well I think" that means I'm proclaiming it as fact. Is very frustrating. But I at least figured out the cause. Whoever is behind it and why is a mystery. I'm tempted to make a conspiracy theory thread just because I desperately want this to be a plot device for TNT to start something with the Pant Devil.

  13. UPDATE!

I've learned after a very long and confusing discussion along with a few personal scans that there are no cookie grabbers involved in this. Rather it is some sort of information grabber that's set to grab and get info from certain spots on your account. It was either done wrong or just doesn't work on Neopets, but they can't actually do anything to your account except withdraw your Neopets into your hand and change your active pets petpage to a PDP.

  14. For one, brain size doesn't matter. My brain could be the size of a pea and still be more functional than Albert Einsteins.

And I did not believe they did. Marriage, family, and love were probably more abstract concepts back then, the same as the concept of a greater being in their lives. And I never said they were mindless. Very few living things in this world are. Maybe they cared for each other to keep the pack alive, to be sure that they didn't die out, the same way wolves do. I'm pretty sure wolves don't have marriages, though, if one of their pack gets hurt, then the others will watch out for them. Humans essentially behaved like normal animals, only with slightly more complex thoughts, for they didn't evolve yet. Now all of this was from an evolutionist point of view.

From the creationist point of view, Cain and Abel, the first two recorded people ever to be born on this earth, had a concept of god, and Adam and Eve before them, for they were cast out of the garden.

    Psst, your ignorance is showing.

The bible was written over the course of a couple thousand years. It contains also a collection of journals and letters. Rest assured my friend, the bible was not written by a group of men that just got together and thought "ooh, let's mess with the minds of people over 2000 years from now."

And I'm not even sure what rules you're referring to. In a sense, we Christians are free to do whatever we want. Hell, I could probably kill my whole family and still go to heaven, as long as I truly repent, because my sins were forgiven by the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus. Now that's not to say we should go out and sin like hell, because by becoming Christians and excepting forgiveness we also agree to try to live our lives for our savior. It's not a rule, it's more a want.

Love and marriage is still abstract. The difference is now people care enough to try to evaluate it. Which seems to cause more problems. Seeing as how homosexual behaviors exist in nature, I don't see what the point of this argument is. To prove that love isn't why people marry? Maybe I'm just confused. It seems off topic.

I find it silly when people use the "someone just decided to make up Christianity one day" argument. Jesus is documented (or at least, someone befitting the description bestowed on Him by the Gospels) as having been hung in Roman documents first of all, so while you can argue His divinity until you're blue in the face, to argue His existence is pretty silly. The scriptures were found in several places all across the Middle East and Middle Eastern seas. I don't think someone would go through all the trouble to write up a several thousand page book, then seperate it into sections and spread it all across the region. (That and the Roman's executed most of the people mentioned in said book that the Romans apparently "made up".)
  15. I can understand why they wouldn't allow the word lesbian. Too many children.

What's so bad about the word lesbian though. It isn't really an insult, nor is it inflammatory in any way. Really it's only going to be brought up one in a great while in the the context of situations which are already forbidden. I would think that I would quicker get a warning for having a discussion with a girl about why she should get so attatched to high school relationships (a discussion that lasted 10 pages mind you) than for saying "I'm a lesbian so no, I don't think Edward is cute" in a single post.

  16. yeah 2k XD im stupid like that.. be warned.. those cookies are pure EVIL... delicious evil though <_<

I am good at Eliv Thade, and i submited 2547 or so last time, but i never got the trohpy nor my 750 for being 1st place XD Nor listed for that matter o_O

Maybe you submitted it after the time of day when scores are updated and someone submitted a score that beat yours.
