A Message from TNT: At some point over the weekend, as a result of a facility move, the Neopets moderation and filter system went off line. During this period, our moderation team was not able to access and appropriately manage the Neopets community and inappropriate comments that were being made. JumpStart has since taken down the boards and other areas affected as we work to get the moderation teams and filters functioning properly. This was an unfortunate incident due to a facility move related to our servers and not the result of any changes to our moderation teams and we apologize to the users that were affected. We will keep all users updated during the day.

This update from TNT was posted via Facebook a little while ago...

Bah, I hoped this wouldn't be posted here and it would have saved a lot of TDNers from being at risk.

I want to stress that if you viewed any neopet look up or petpage with the shocking stuff on it OR a pet that had a shocking name - clear your cookies and change your password.

Malicious code was embedded on a lot of them and that's why these pages were removed to prevent an outburst in CGers.

I'm glad to hear that the head-cases are no longer running the asylum! ;)

Hrtbrk, great advice! Definitely a wise thing to do. I'm glad I don't go onto most of the forums anymore.

Frankly, TNT CERTAINLY did NOT deserve this, but with a rather narcissistic society, people will rationalize just about ANY bad behavior that they commit to justify it. I'm sure that TNT has been working as hard and as best as they could, despite JS letting many of them go. DUMB MOVE ON JS' part IMHO. But even so, JS does not deserve this either. Sure millions of people are frustrated with the site glitches and all that have been going on since JS acquired Neopets. I hope no TDNers were involved, nor get impacted by malicious garbage posted on the affected places! I've always believed in Quality over Quantity. I'd say we've got really good quality members here. :) Just saying I hope nobody joined the mob. ;) I wouldn't wanna see anyone get iced or hacked that was just looking either. :(

I'm glad to see the site is back up. :) Hopefully things will get back to normal soon!

Honestly I can't help but feel like Neopets is starting to collapse. Bugged things everywhere, laying off a good portion of the team, promising to put things back online and never doing so, downtime being very common, etc. and now this. I tried not to be pessimistic for a while, but I gotta say, it's not looking very good at the moment.

Wow, I think I was seeing inappropriate words on the boards before they took them down, so that was the beginning, huh? I hope they get things fixed, and fix their word filters so that their own neopets items aren't blocked from pages >-<

I think it was cool that people got to talk about real world issues, or sexuality/gender ect, but the rampant gore/porn/racism/ect was disgusting even if this wasn't a site aimed at kids.

It was agravating when the people breaking the rules were blaming TNT for it.

"It's not my fault that I burnt him to death, it's his fault for being flamable!"

I'm worried that people who really didn't do anything might end up getting frozen. :sad01_anim:

Being able to talk about real world issues would have been cool. (Enough with people saying that they come here to get away from it, so it shouldn't be allowed. It would be like any other board, if you don't like it, don't go there. Some people want to talk about that stuff.) Most of the time, it's low key stuff, and not a  big mess.

I'm also worried innocent accounts will end up getting frozen. There was password stealing websites embedded on some of the user lookups, pet lookups, and also some posted on the Neoboards. I wouldn't be surprised if people were stealing other's accounts to use for breaking the rules on the Neoboards and to make inappropriate pet names. :S

What annoyed me the most were the people saying how they apparently 'deserved' this. :shiftyeyes_anim: They've been gone for years, and think that being on as kids means that they 'deserv'e to come back and post vulgar things, have their laugs and then leave, leaving the rest of us with the mess of stricter filters and the mods being more liberal with punishments. And then if you speak up about it, you're 'over reacting' or 'being too sensitive'. :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

Sure, this is the 'most interesting thing to happen to Neo' because you haven't been here. Dear Fyora, if you actually came on, you would see that yes there is stuff to do, yes there is a community, and yes we love the site. GRRRRR!! :grrr:

Well I saw a post on Tumblr stating that Jumpstart made this bed by firing most of the main staff among other things, so now they have to lie in it.  I know you're upset Brynchilla, but I stated eariler that when negative feelings are held back for too long, the feelings explode out like a volcano.  Your post just confirms my theory.  :P

By the way, is the filter problem fixed now?  :)

I agree the filtering was too strict, it was ridiculous some of the words that weren't allowed. However, when it comes to actual bad words and inappropriate imagery, I just think it is really immature and disrespectful to other people on the site and especially the fact that there are kids on the site. I'm an adult, but I go on neopets for the fun and I know I don't have to worry I will click on some link and see something offensive. I don't go on the boards, but I go to user lookups a lot, though fortunately I did not see anything inappropriate before tnt noticed and closed off the profiles and boards. From my experience, generally speaking, this type of "rebelling" doesn't get the people to listen or stop doing something, it just causes them to get offensive and be even more strict. I hope this will not be the case with tnt.

I can't agree with the "bottled up and now letting loose" theory. It's a game site and voluntary. It's not prison, they weren't being starved, tortured or forced to be there. Because there are rules and regulations is no reason to act vile and immature.  Everything in life has rules and regulations.  I had enough sense to not visit those boards or ULs but have read and heard of plenty that was on them.  I will not go into some of it here but it was beyond just people acting out and letting off steam.  There are plenty of places they can do that on the internet so there is absolutely no excuse for them to do it on Neopets.

The people who do this kind of thing don't need an excuse though, do they. Not beyond, "because they can". Well, also, "because they're idiots". :shiftyeyes_anim:

Were shops affected by the filter meltdown? Since people can code backgrounds in their shops and stuff like that...

What you said is true, Jenks. I was just trying to explain why some users went crazy.  :)

Letting go a good portin of your staff doesn't mean much. When times are slow or when a company is bought, many people can be laid off. The second one isn't as bad as the first one, but that doesn't mean things can't speed back up!

As for the 'never doing so part', they still have time. It's like a little kid on a long car trip who keeps asking their parents when they're going to get there. They'll get their eventually, they just arent' there yet!

Downtime hasn't been very common, I'm not sure what you're talking about.... (Downtime was a lot more common when the site first started out, so don't take it as an indication as to how good/bad the site is doing!)

I don't know why they would be holding the negatgive feelings back for too long. The majority of the people who were posting the stuff were people who had not been on the site for years!! There are aslo good ways to get rid of negative energy, what happened was not one of them!!

As for te filters, we don't know. They took down the boards and uls to fix them, and now the whole site is currently down. I'm going to take that as a no?

I was wondering what happened to the neoboards. There are some people on there (and on the internet in general) who can be ridiculously immature :(

Hopefully the site will be back up soon. Going through withdrawal already XD

The site is back up. But I'm a little cautious about buying from user shops...
