I only tried doing that the first time, and they told me "Since it's impossible for us to verify claims of this kind, we will never credit scores no matter the circumstances".
I do try to refresh if it's been a while, but the majority of avatar scores require like half an hour to accomplish.
It's impossible to avoid memory leaks and errors at that point.

After your replies I agree that my title was maybe too catastrophic and that buying a reskinned game may not be the end of the world.
I hope you're right and that this plot's lack of production values on the artistic side is only because their creative team is busy with the app, and not because they're currently lacking one.
Right now the thing what would make me go "Yes, the creative team is back", as unrealistic as that sounds,  would be the return of comic page narration for the plot story.

Which is depressing, since TNT felt the need to spend one grand on a game that a first-year CS student can crap out in half an hour.

This means that currently there's no free coders on the Neopets staff able to produce this excuse for a game right now. They didn't have a single intern with minimal programming knowledge that they could lock in a closet after being told "We need this kind of game within an hour or two, stat".

Got both the Buzzin' and Grey avatars today.
Will be trying for the Destruct-o-Match III one for the rest of the day.

This plot, together with the bugs-riddled app, the delayed schedule for everything on site and the lack of improvements on all sides are all symptoms of the same thing. Neopets is trapped in an insidious Catch-22 at the moment. They're in a rut, and they need to bring in more users somehow.
But for more users, they need more content.
But for more content, they need competent programmers and a local creative team instead of outsourcing their whole production to India.
But to do that, they need more money.
But that requires more users.
But that requires more content.
Etc etc etc
 
To this I'll add that Jumpstart in itself is only the tip of the iceberg. The game is in the hands of something much more sinister right now, and that's NetDragon. Every single one of their franchises they've bought so far has been sanitized for Chinese audiences, given a revamp centered around looboxes, and sent on its merry way to make billions in record time before being killed off.
Be very afraid the day you notice skeleton-related items disappearing from the site. That'll be the harbinger of the end.
