etrnldarkness got a reaction from Scoobert_Doo in Charity Corner 2018 Is Here!
Thank you for this. I haven't donated every day since I am TERRIBLE at following the news and never noticed this event pop up, so if I missed out I'll be OK (although a little sad). I am happy to know the old avatar won't be sticking around though and they fixed it, I was starting to wonder if I was jinxed since I just did more donating yet again today (hit my 2k goal) and there was still no notification.

    Bring on Monday!

@Nielo Thanks for all the info :) I can only hope to get a decent trophy and maybe an avatar out of this in the end (since we don't know the official avatar for this year or how to get it). Fingers crossed! I didn't participate last year so it is all new to me ^.^

I don't think we can compare last year's requirements for the trophies with this year's, as last year it was 2000 donations that would get you gold, but this year we're only seeing the amount of points we've acquired, not the amount of times we've donated. And since this is the first time the point system is being used, it's hard to predict how many points will get you a gold trophy.
As for the avatar, what I gather from the Neoboards is that it's still unclear if it's a glitch or not. Many people are assuming it is, considering it seems random, the message often stays on the screen, and it's last year's avatar, but TNT hasn't said anything on the matter yet.

Ah well. I strongly believe that the forum software decided to show me up here, because pretty much as soon as I posted this topic I could like stuff again, and, I got notifications for people liking my posts.
But, the joke's on YOU software, because I posted this just to make you do that.
In all seriousness though, it's working fine now!

etrnldarkness got a reaction from Mouseykins in Painkillers taking a dangerous step backwards?
Whew, this topic! Can I say how nice (and horrible in its own way) that I know exactly what you mean @Mouseykins about a child coughing so much they get sick. My little cousin is like this and has been since we took him in at 18 months. I think it is a bad gag reflex. He doesn't do it so much now when he is awake, but in the evening if he has a cough...we can be up several times a night cleaning and doing laundry. And there was no medicine for his age to help!!!
Flavoring in general - look, this same kid was on so many meds due to his living situation (he certainly didn't need them) he was even begging to be allowed to have the nasty stuff (stuff when he has to take now he hates it).
For me overall a tasty medicine leads to less fights which leads to medication actually being administered properly (as oppose to wearing most of it as mentioned above).
When I was a kid they had this Ghost buster toothpaste with a picture of slimer on it and I LOVED THE STUFF. It tasted freaking amazing just like candy and I would eat it in the bathroom, LOL. So they discontinued it (probably for this very reason) but before that my mom just stopped buying it since it wasn't like a medicine she could lock up (well, she could but it wouldn't stop me from eating instead of brushing, ya know?)

Ultimately, as long as the parent is responsible and keeps the stuff away while the kid is at the age to not understand nothing should be of concern. Nothing wrong with making life a little easier. And if an accident does happen? I believe someone posted above the typical amount in a package  of the children's stuff wouldn't cause death. Might make them sick though (upset stomach).

I mean heck they sell children's pepto and they aren't even supposed to take it (oops on my end!) Accidents happen no matter how cautious you may be. =)

As a Mom of 3, the reason why they're making these fastmelts for children is so that they're easier for them to take. Have you tried giving a liquid medication to a squirming 2 year old? I certainly have and I usually end up wearing most of it and it's harder because you don't know for sure if the child got the full dose or not. These chewables are very handy and easy for younger children to take by themselves and the parent doesn't have to worry about them getting too much or too little by making up for the stuff that spilled or got spat out. I like how they're making some of the cough medications taste a bit better for kids. My daughter at 2 years old had tonsilitis and her doctor put her on terrible medication and she downright refused it. It didn't matter what I tried she would not take it. I had to return it to the pharmacy and get something different for her. Which of course led to her being sick longer because antibiotics take up to 48 hours before they begin to work.
The most important thing to remember is the parents here. If parents are responsible and keep the medication up out of reach and are strict about it then there is no issue. My 3 year old will see me take a tylenol sometimes and demand one as well. I have to be firm with her and tell her she doesn't need one and ask her if she would like a snack. My 6 year old has had to take iron supplements when she was 4. That stuff was nasty! I had to basically force it down her throat so she would take it. Not a fun experience for either of us! We had to do this for 8 weeks!
In instances of children overdosing on medication, who is really at fault here? The child or the parents? The parents are most definitely at fault! As parents it is our responsibility to keep any and all medication out of reach and locked away. If we can't do that then we shouldn't have the medication in the house. We are responsible for the safety and well being of our children. These pharmaceutical companies are just trying to make our lives a little easier.
Now if you want to talk about irritating practices of medication for children then lets go to how there is NOTHING available to help with a cold for a 2 year old. All the stuff that's on the shelf for sore throats and such only has one ingredient acetaminophen and it's the exact same stuff you can get in a fastmelt tablet in the same quantity. So why pay 2x as much for a liquid just because your child has a cold thinking it will help them. The pharmaceutical companies cannot have these types of products on the shelves because too many parents have overdosed their children from not paying attention to the ingredients and giving them extra tylenol on top of what's in the medication. So now because of these irresponsible people, my children have to suffer. How is that fair!
When my kids get sick they get nasty coughs and cough so hard they end up throwing up EVERY SINGLE TIME! My daughter when she was 5 we couldn't even find anything to help her stop coughing. We resorted to using a medication called Robitussin that had a cough suppressant in it for 6+ years. We gave her a little bit less then the dose for a 6 year old and it helped tremendously. My 3 year old was sick a lot last year and constantly coughing and throwing up. It got so bad in June that we took her to the doctor and the doctor even told us to get the Tylenol Cough and Cold with the cough suppressant in it and that's for 6+ years as well. I told him I've already been giving her that but half of what they say for a 6 year old. I forget what the actual dosage was and he said that was perfectly fine. So basically it all boils down to having some common sense.
Now I could go on all day about poor parenting habits, but I'll leave it at that.

I get the sentiment here, and don't want to imply that over-the-counter drugs can't be dangerous, but I don't think this particular example is that threatening. According to The Internet, in order to overdose on paracetamol (known as acetaminophen here in the US), you need to take somewhere in the range of 20+ grams. That entire package in Jelly's original post (24 pills at 250 milligrams each) is a total of 6 grams. Of course a child wouldn't be able to take as much as an adult, but to me it seems kind of unlikely that a major accident would happen with a single pack of these pills in the house.
Personally, I would love this if I were a parent and it made it easier to get my kid to take their medicine. I think it should be up to the parents to keep potentially dangerous substances out of children's reach when they're very young, and then as they get older to explain the potential dangers of taking too much. Growing up, my parents kept all medications in an upper kitchen cabinet, which I wasn't able to reach until I was at least 7 or 8--old enough to know better than to take anything I wasn't supposed to.

Hahaha, oh yes, I can most definitely imagine it. xD
I'm sticking by thinking it's sloppy though, they should have come up with a better way of doing things. But it's no different to the sloppiness of the haze removal, where the message said you've cleared the haze with your potion before you've even used it, is it.

Speculation IS a lot of fun. I'm very intrigued about how things turn out, I just hope it's something good, not just predictable or ridiculous, lol.
I wouldn't have thought it would be an issue, considering that ALL the wraiths are still available to fight, including the ones who are actually back to their Neopet selves, and long gone out of the Infirmary, lol.
Am I being unfair in finding this a bit sloppy?

Well I do like this idea of a survey!
Though hopefully it won't just be a choice of pre-selected things, an "other" type of option where you can fill in your own preference is a must really.

It's hard to tell, at this point. At least they put something up on the KeyQuest page, instead of the game trying to load. However, since you mentioned the news, there was a question poised in today's (26 January 2018) Neopian Times Editorial, Issue: 814, 26th day of Sleeping, Y20, Question #2:
    ref: http://www.neopets.com/ntimes/index.phtml?section=editorial&issue=814
So, it could be a possibility that it may come back, as they did say - "at this time". I, however, (my opinion only) do not believe they are "working" on it, at this time. I think we may have a better idea when the "survey" is released. If KeyQuest is listed, then I'd think it would be a positive sign at a return. If it is not listed, then we should start looking at plots and tombstones, thinking of epitaphs, planning a date for the requiem mass, and finding someone to officiate...

etrnldarkness reacted to Emily in Reminder for Applying for Item Lends
Just want to send out a quick reminder on a few things for when people are sending in requests for items from the ALP.
Firstly, please make sure you're only requesting one item at a time. This ensures that 1) Everyone who wants to borrow items will be able to in a timely fashion and 2) That if something happens (an account is hacked or frozen), we don't lose a bunch of items. We only send out one item per person at a time regardless of how many requests you send in at once, so by submitting multiple requests, you're bumping other people who requested the same item further down the queue and creating a backlog for the items. It's best to wait until you've returned one item before requesting another.
Secondly, if you aren't able to provide full collateral for an item and indicate that when applying, please also include what you ARE able to offer as collateral. By not doing so, it delays the lend as we need to track you down and find out this information before the lend can be set up.
Lastly, please try to make sure things are getting returned in a reasonable amount of time. I know some things can't be helped (internet outages, sickness, etc), but if you have a planned absence like a vacation or something, please either wait until you get back to request, or indicate in your request that you'll not be able to get online during that specific period so the lend can be set up when you get back instead. If I have to spend weeks tracking an item back down, all the other people who want to borrow it are forced to wait, or I end up having to re-buy a bunch of (usually expensive) items unnecessarily.

Here's a juggling Krawk for making it to the end:
